"Mind-Bottling" Week 3

Here is my progress thus far:
video
Unfortunately, I am behind schedule on the keys. The guy in blue is nearly completed though the pink guy still needs a lot of work.To make up for lack of frames, I managed to draw a background concept for the animation:

Note: the chairs will be re-drawn and placed in ToonBoom.
Thanks for watching -Laura

"Mind-Bottling" Week 2

Here are the thumbnails! I'm having a blast working on this!
video

Note: These "thumbnails" were sketched in ToonBoom, most of these are not the final poses. I tried to make them interact without making the viewer too distracted on who to focus on. Also the video is in lower quality since it's a very early Work-In Progress.

Speaking of Progress, here is my Project Chart:

Design4Media: Student Choice Proposal

For my Final project, I am going to animate one sequence to dialogue. I was highly inspired by the 11 Second Club  monthly competitions:

"The 11 Second Club is a monthly character animation competition. Animators from all over the world participate, animating a character speaking a line of dialogue provided by the club. Throughout the competition, participants can share their progress with each other and critique each other's work. At the end of the month, everyone votes for whose submission they consider the best for that month. The idea is to give animators a chance to practice their skills in a fun, challenging environment." - source.

Since it is close to the middle of November and I would be working until mid-December, I decided to take a short acting sound file of my choosing and give myself target dates and deadlines very much like the 11 Second Club:

  • 11/13 (Week 1): find sound file and start thumb-nailing
  • 11/20 (Week 2): Complete thumbnails. Start "key" animation
  • 11/27 (Week 3) Character animation
  • 12/4  (Week 4) Character animation
  • 12/11 (Week 5) Final animation (deadline.)
Throughout the month, I will be getting critiqued on each Work in Progress that I post. I will be updating at least each week. This will be good for networking and brainstorming as I will need a lot of feedback from other people. So please comment!

To give you a taste, this was my first attempt at animating to dialogue last Semester. Some of you might recognize it from my earlier blog posts:

This is pretty rough and mostly key-framed, but it sets a fair example that I want to hone in on character (acting) in animation.

Stay tuned!

Design4Media Update

Hello! For this week I worked on some clean-up and coloring on the remaining sequences in the film. Jinny and I re-interviewed people for the documentary due to technical issues from last recording.
Now for some exciting news!

The Ugly Dinosaur will be premiering along with other film projects this Thursday at the Gateway Film Center!:

This was a crazy project, but definitely the best I've had the pleasure to be a part of.
Thank you.
